As a martial artist for three decades now and an instructor in Bandalan Doce Pares Eskrima, I have to say that I found this book to be pure gold. Davis knows what he is talking about. I highly recommend this to martial artists who are interested in researching historical European martial arts with an eye for combat efficacy. My only complaint would be that there are a couple of segments of the book on fighting sequences that are without illustrations and a bit hard to follow as a consequence. There are many segments with illustrations though, and these and much of the other introductory and analytical writing is concise and evinces a mastery of this knowledge that I can only praise highly.Product details

A useful adjunct to the study of the weapons techniques of the Italian masters.
Great little book. It is clear and to the point. Much of the information in this book is not easily found.
Some insight into combat but not convinced about Marozzo and Saviolo having much in common.
Great comprehensive slim book !
I had no idea how sophisticated the approach to personal weapons handling and self-defense was during this period. This book is a real eye-opener to those of us who grew up watching movie characters clang away with swords in a seemingly random manner. If you appreciate the discipline required of martial arts practiced in the 21st century, I think you'll find this slim volume interesting and rewarding.
a great combination of various treatises for a similar style and comparing the similarities and differences. This book also analyzed and derived a way to think about the fight, from ward and counter ward to a general theory of attack and defense. Quite a thoughtful book and a quick read, reread.
